What is Chromie Squiggle?
Created by Erick Calderon, pseudonymously known as Snowfro, Chromie Squiggles are the genesis project of Art Blocks, a platform for generative art projects, and one of the most important generative art projects on the blockchain. Chromie Squiggles are unique for pioneering new ways for people to interact with digital art, they are both animated and interactive. Before Art Block’s innovation, generative outputs were mostly curated, while Chromie Squiggles introduced a new model where every piece of art created was minted directly from the collector through a contract.
What is Waste Yarn Project?
WYP is an initiative that repurposes surplus yarns to create one-of-a-kind knitwear. The process is guided by a system of controlled randomness that places chance expression at its heart. Based on what is available, unique combinations of yarns across spectrums of color are determined by spinning a color wheel. Every spin on the WYP Wheel of Fortune produces a singular result, so each piece is numbered to reflect this unique nature.
What are ODDS?
ODDS are generative sweaters by TRIBUTE BRAND in collaboration with WASTE YARN PROJECT and CHROMIE SQUIGGLE. The partnership results in unique zero waste physical sweaters from surplus yarns derived from the source code of Chromie Squiggle.
Soon we will launch an ODD generator that will enable previewing and purchasing sweater blueprints from existing Chromie Squiggles (accessible to Chromie Squiggle owners) and generating blueprints based on randomized Chromie Squiggle code.
01 GENERATE AN ODD SWEATER BLUEPRINT
Using the ODD Generator choose the design based on the Chromie Squiggle you own or based on the randomized Chromie Squiggle code.
02 PURCHASE SELECTED ODD SWEATER BLUEPRINT
By purchasing a digital blueprint first you are making sure you are the only owner of this sweater. This blueprint will instruct the production of the physical sweater as well as unique digital skin for entering immersive digital environments.
03 REDEEM PHYSICAL SWEATER
After the purchase of the blueprint, you will be able to select your preferred size and add delivery information for the physical sweater based on the purchased blueprint. You can redeem the physical sweater immediately after the purchase or anytime during the preorder phase (until September).
The ODD asset includes an on-chain digital blueprint and a physical sweater.
The physical sweater is crafted by Waste Yarn Project following the instructions provided on the digital blueprint. These instructions incorporate various variables found in each Chromie Squiggle, resulting in different yarn appearances, knitting stitches, and color distributions. The sweater comes with an NFC chip that enables connectivity to the Tribute App.
The ODD digital blueprint is a pixel-style visual instruction for the production of the sweater. This token stores all the information necessary to produce the physical sweater as well as digital wearables (skins).
The source code or script behind ODD assets takes generative Chromie Squiggle code and uses a seed input to control a variety of different variables in each Squiggle, creating an on-chain token that contains instructions for producing physical sweaters and virtual experience in the form of digital skins. The main variable determining the sweater's appearance is the Chromie Squiggle type, along with color spread, steps between, and segments, which control color distribution across knitted panels.
An NFC chip-enabled physical ODD sweater allows for interactions with compatible devices, by simply tapping the device onto the chip. This technology can enable various functionalities like accessing additional content, verifying authenticity, or connecting to related services.
If you own one or more Chromie Squiggles, you can generate one ODD blueprint for each Chromie Squiggle. However, please note that the total number of sweater tokens available in the drop will be limited.
If you don’t own a Chromie Squiggle you can generate and purchase ODDS blueprints based on randomized Chromie Squiggle code. The amount of randomized blueprints you can generate is unlimited. However, please note that the total number of sweaters available in the drop will be limited.
Every sweater is completely unique. ODDS are unique physical sweaters crafted from surplus yarns, ensuring that each sweater is distinct from the others. They are derived from the source code of Chromie Squiggle, making them truly one-of-a-kind. A digital script transforms the Chromie Squiggle source code to generate unique physical and digital wearables linked to individual Chromie Squiggle, with each item being uniquely tied to its owner but instantly recognizable as 1of1ofX to everyone.
It's important to note that ODDs generated through the sweater generator are based on the Chromie Squiggle code and that owning an ODD sweater generated from the Squiggle code does not provide ownership of the Chromie Squiggle itself.
ODD sweaters are not customizable. When generating an ODD sweater blueprint, you have two options: you can either use your own Chromie Squiggle to generate a sweater, or you can utilize a sweater generator to explore infinite variations until you find the one that best suits you.
Bold ODD features an enlarged shape and color scheme while maintaining proportionality to the original visual iteration. It is knitted using a chunky hand machine and incorporates a big rib stitch.
Ribbed ODD alters the color spectrum beneath, either darkening or lightening it, resulting in a muted grey and white cast. It is knitted with small stripes to mimic the Ribbed squiggle's appearance and incorporates a plaited half cardigan stitch.
Fuzzy ODD showcases a distinct color and line pattern, with small circles of color coming together to create a cloud-like version of the Chromie Squiggle. It is knitted using a higher percentage of hairy yarns like mohair and alpaca and then brushed to achieve an extra fuzzy look.
Pipe ODD consists of thin slices of color that blend together, creating a muted shade and a three-dimensional effect. It is anchored by circles of color wrapped in black at the beginning and end of each segment, following the undulating line of the Squiggle. The design includes several solid-colored stripes outlined with black stripes, with a mixture of colors in between, always combined with black.
Normal ODD represents the baseline visual characteristics of a Squiggle. It showcases the signature undulating squiggly line from which all other types originate. The design incorporates different colors to best match each normal squiggle.
Slinky ODD displays a ribbed quality with thin cylindrical rings forming its undulating frame. The distinct 3-dimensional effect is emphasized by solid circles of changing color positioned at the apex of each turn. It features solid stripes and a mixture of colors in between, always blended with light colors.
Bold, Fuzzy, Ribbed, Slinky, and Pipe are the types least likely to be generated, while Normal is the most commonly generated one.
Each type can also come in a Hyper rainbow version. However, Hyper ODDS are the rarest and do not appear frequently in the generator so best of luck!!
The yarns used in the construction of each ODD sweater vary, as they are individually knitted with different types and colors of yarn. Surplus yarns used are wool, mohair, alpaca, silk, viscose, nylon, linen, cashmere, cotton, elastin, lurex, polyester, acrylic… To find the exact content of the sweater, please check the inside of the garment on the back of the neck. There, you will find detailed information about the specific materials used in your unique sweater.
Note that generated blueprint will not hold the information about the composition of the sweater.
Since the colors are taken directly from the Chromie Squiggle code, the colors of the digital print match perfectly the colors of Chromie Squiggle. However, available surplus yarns sometimes don’t match the Squiggle colors perfectly, and for that reason, the physical sweater will have a more toned-down character.
ODD sweaters are available in a range of sizes, from XS to XL. A size guide with photos is provided.
If the size you are looking for is not available, we encourage you to contact us using our customer service at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will give our best to find a solution.
If you don't own a crypto wallet you can purchase assets using a credit card in US dollars. We will create a wallet connected to your email address to store the purchased digital assets.
The preorders will be open until early September 2023. Once the preorders are closed, all the redeemed sweaters will be sent to production. It takes one day to produce one sweater and the earliest shipping is expected beginning of December 2023.
Sustainability is an important aspect of this project. The sweaters are created in collaboration with the Waste Yarn Project, which uses leftover yarn in its production. Waste yarn is sourced, and sorted by color, material type, and ply. This way of production ensures that each sweater is made using waste materials that leave no leftover yarn.
